Boat Builder / Shipwright 

Welding and Fabrication

PFG is located at Prince of Wales Bay precinct; a fifteen-minute drive from the Hobart City centre. We are an award-winning Tasmanian boat building company with a dedicated and highly skilled team. Building next-generation sea and workboats using engineered polymers and other composite materials, our boats are exported globally. We service customers in the Defence, Police and Security, Emergency Services, Aquaculture, and various other industry sectors.

About You

Your new role

We value hand skills and experience over a certificate. Working as an integral member of the fabrication team, you will learn the art of plastic fabrication and welding, will read, and interpret technical drawings, accurately measure, cut, set out jobs, and ultimately create PFG’s renowned Sentinel and Aquatruck boats. On the job training will be provided. The role includes workshop and some site work. You will have the opportunity to work in all areas of boat production. This position is an opportunity for the right person to grow with the business and be a part of Team Sentinel. You will have the opportunity to upskill, to create and problem solve.

Project Manager / Estimator

Immediate start – full time hours

About You

Whilst liaising with key clients and visiting the occasional site is important, you will also need experience in the following:

  • Building of relationships with new and existing customers as well as all internal and external key stake holders.
  • The ability to read & understand drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Knowledge of specifications, standards and procedures that will have an impact on project costs and schedule.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • A trade or tertiary qualification in engineering would be advantageous.
  • Excellent computer skills including AutoCAD Inventor would be advantageous.

Your new role

The role will suit an estimator from a ‘make-to-order’ jobbing shop, manufacturing environment. In this key role, you will work closely with the sales and production teams, utilising your skills, experience and fabrication process knowledge to accurately quote a wide range of manufactured jobs.

Duties will include;

  • Managing & maintaining customer and supplier relationships.
  • Liaising with internal/external stakeholders to prepare our estimates and quotes.
  • Provide responses to RFQ’s within set time frames.
  • Consult with and obtain quotations form subcontractors as required.
  • Working with production to ensure accuracy of quoted information.
  • Satisfy existing Quality Assurance guidelines on quoting/estimating.
  • Ensuring that quotes meet minimum margin levels
